Book Description:
When it comes to food, nature provides a wealth of delicious choices. But each one also supplies unique health benefits. From apples to yogurt, this comprehensive encyclopedia of power foods from top nutritionist David Grotto proves that what tastes good can also be good for you—and tells you why. Did you know…

• A handful of tart cherries before bed can help you sleep better
• Hot peppers may fight skin cancer
• Potatoes may reduce the risk of stroke
• Grape juice may be as heart-healthy as red wine
• Honey can help wounds heal faster

In working with thousands of clients over many years and searching for the most nutritious and tasty foods, David Grotto made a simple but profound discovery: telling people what they couldn’t eat was far less effective than telling them what they could. So began his list of power foods, rich in nutrients, loaded with disease-fighting antioxidants and important omega fats—and surprisingly more familiar than you might expect.

More than a reference book, 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life will make a significant impact on your health by guiding you to gradually add these foods to your diet. Plus, each entry includes a history of the food’s origin, therapeutic benefits along with scientific research, tips for use and preparation, and an appetizing recipe from a leading chef or nutritionist. Prepare to awaken your tastebuds, lose excess weight, and feel the healing begin.

This book cuts to the chase! by Diana S. Dyer
Simplify your food shopping. This new book 101 Foods that could Save your Life cuts to the chase about which foods to purchase at your local grocery store and Farmers’ Market along with providing recipes using each food that are beautiful, delicious, and (yes!) healthy, too. 101 Foods is well organized, easy (and FUN!) to read and then read again. It is chock-full of information about each food, ranging from where it is grown to how it helps to keep our bodies healthy. The information is beneficial to people focused on optimizing either cancer survivorship or cancer prevention as well as those who are trying to reduce the risk of or manage other conditions like heart disease and diabetes with good food and good nutrition. I’m going to enjoy making these delicious recipes throughout 2008 and for many years beyond, too.

Amazingly Simple Way To Add These Power Foods To Your Diet by Mark A. Kennedy
I received 101 Foods about a month ago and would have written a review earlier, however my 13 year old daughter took such an interest in the book that I was not able to even look at it until about a week ago. As a family that does what they can to eat healthy foods, most of which come from Whole Foods, I never thought that I would be surprised by anything that this book could throw at me…..boy was I wrong. What you need to understand is this book is a cookbook, a cookbook that introduces the reader to specific foods, many of which you have probably never heard of, then outlines the health benefits and suggests a recipe to get them added to your meal planning!

So many books of this type are more about what not to eat, whereas this book is mainly attempting to educate the reader on some of these “healing” foods and figuring out an easy way to get you to try them. The honesty that Dave Grotto conveys in this book is fun and comical. It seems that even a health guru can fall victim to the same issues that we all face when we don’t eat right or exercise. Dave’s self admitted need to listen to his own advice reveals just how powerful some of these foods can be!

If your looking for ways to get more energy in your life, lower your cholesterol, balance your blood sugar, and even boost your immune system to fight off sickness, then adding some of these 101 Foods to your diet can help. Reading this book was an enjoyable journey as our family continues to add variety to our diets, especially the variety that can save your life.

I guess I’ll have to give the book back to my 13 year old so she can get her requests on the weekly grocery list!
